From A Savings Group to a Real Estate Investment Business

The story of REM began with a savings group in the Kingdom of Eswatini established and led by Tinashe and Naomi Chitambira in 2012. The savings group Way-To-Go (WTG) comprised members from various professions contributing monthly savings. Members achieved different goals, such as household upgrades and educational fees. After six years of successful operations, there were ambitions to raise savings for tangible investments such as real estate investments. The group welcomed the new direction, but there were evident challenges; only a few members afforded the suggested monthly contributions. Then something happened; in 2017, a colleague sent Naomi a YouTube video on property ‘stokvel’ concept. At that moment, Naomi realized the real estate investment dream was achievable, but they needed to look beyond the WTG savings group.

Watching that video was like “an idea whose time had come,” says Naomi.

After a year and a half, the founders of REM started selling the idea to other professionals. They invited capable couples to lunch at their home and shared the vision, making calls to a list of friends in different countries, and eventually, Real Estate Masters was born. Real Estate Masters was incorporated in November 2019 in South Africa as a private company as defined in the Companies Act, 2008.

Founding partner at Strengths Inc. with over ten years of leadership development and coaching experience in Southern Africa.

Gamuchirai Moyo

A self-driven, passionate learner starting a banking career as an Economist, Gamuchirai progressed to acquire qualifications, skills and knowledge in Accounting, Legal and Compliance fields. Her Bank supervision experience laid a solid foundation in understanding systems, policy matters and sustainability of resilient institutions. Gamu believes that excellence is born out of consistent hardwork, passion and determination.

Sylvester Moyo

An experienced Public Health Scientist with over 10 years of expertise in strengthening public health and laboratory systems. Holding a BSc (Hons), BTech, MBA, PGDiploma in Global Health Procurement and Supply Chain Management, PGDiploma in Medicines Development, and an MSc in Public Health, Sylvester has supported and led multiple international projects focused on antimicrobial resistance surveillance, increased availability and access to diagnostics, as well as pandemic preparedness.
